The Schola Cantorum is Holy Trinity’s principal choir, leading the music in liturgy for the 11:15 AM Solemn Mass on Sundays from October through May, and for all major feast days and celebrations. Under the direction of Dr. Andrew Yeargin (Director of Music & Organist) and Michelle Repella (Music Associate & Principal Cantor), the Schola Cantorum consists of nine staff singers and two-to-four deputies, all of whom are professional musicians in the New York area. The Schola’s repertoire spans six centuries—the entire gamut of the sacred choral repertoire—from the Middle Ages to the Modern era, as well as the music of contemporary composers such as McNeil Robinson (Director of Music at Holy Trinity from 2007–2014).
Members of the Schola Cantorum also serve as cantors for the 5:30 PM Vigil Mass on Saturdays and the 9:30 AM Mass on Sundays, as well as for the 5:30 PM Mass offered on various Holy Days of Obligation throughout the year. During the Schola's off-season from June through September, music at the 11:15 AM Mass is also led by a cantor.
The Contemporary Ensemble, led by Dr. Janet Chung and assisted by cantor Jessica Copland, consists of talented parishioners who sing or play instruments. This ensemble leads the 5:30 PM Contemporary Mass on Sunday evenings and rehearses every Sunday at 4:15 PM in the Church. This ensemble is ALWAYS looking for new members, and if you have a love of singing or play an instrument, contact Janet Chung at [email protected] or Andrew Yeargin at [email protected].
